Prazska Trznice – Local Prague Markets-2024

prague markets
I visited the Prague markets earlier this year. And compared to my trip several years ago, Prazska Trznice (Prague Market also called Holešovická Trznice, “Vietnamese market” or Holesovice market” ) was not as busy. But it still sells knock-off items, fresh produce, household goods, and more. Although it has changed, I would still include it in your itinerary if you’re looking for bargains.

Prague Markets in 2024

Don’t be alarmed when you arrive at Prazska Trznice, it can look like an abandoned warehouse lot, but take a look around and you’ll discover why it is one of the best Prague markets. It is not as busy as it used to be and doesn’t have as many stores as it had in the past, but for bargain hunters, it is a hidden gem. You might enter the complex and think it is a ghost town, but poke around, and explore the stores to find what you want. I suggest turning right after you enter the gate. Here you’ll find several clothing stores and shoe stores with excellent prices. You won’t find anything like this in the market in Prague’s city center (Havelske Trziste)! And it is nothing like the designer label Arena Outlet Mall.

Prague Trznice

This one of the Prague markets has been operating for the last 125 years, and the large complex hosts many cultural events, and fairs. Even during the pandemic, you can still visit this Prague market (this is also the location of a Prague COVID testing lab).

What can you buy at the Prague markets?

You can pick up new and used and fake name brand clothes and accessories. This Prague market market is really large, consisting of a labyrinth of passages, some under cover and some free standing. There is another Prague market in the city center but it is over priced and geared towards tourists. This Prague market offers a wider variety of goods and is not touristy junk. The locals can be seen here buying electrical gadgets, clothes, food, alcohol, odd secondhand objects, sunglasses, arts, crafts spices and Asian goods.

A lot of Asian traders offer goods that have been imported from the East. There are no frills attached here for the benefit of the tourists. The trick is – and this is essential – BARGAIN! Ask the price, act shocked and start walking away. The vendor will call you and ask how much you want to pay. Show them on their calculate no more than a quarter of the original price. I have bought a bag here that they asked 750 for and I paid 250, a babushka they wanted 650 for I paid 450, and T-shirts they ask 350 for I got for 100. Don’t be shy there is no harm in trying. Despite having to bargain this is still the best Prague market.

Other Must-See Places in Prague

If you want an extensive list of must-see unusual attractions in Prague then follow the link. Prague is definitely one of my favorite cities and you can spend a week there at least. If you fancy taking a side trip from Prague there are several on offer. Among the most popular is the day tour to Karlovy Vary, but personally, I didn’t find it very interesting. Instead, consider visiting the quaint village of Cesky Krumlov from Prague. This beautiful little village is a postcard version of the typical European village. And it makes a nice contrast to the bustling city of Prague.
