Salzburg, Austria, not just the Sound of Music.

If you are in Salzburg – a beautiful city – you may want to do more than the usual tourist activities (Mozart’s house, castle, Sound of Music… bla bla bla). You also might want more than opera in the evening. So make your way to the Augustiner Bräu Kloster Mülln where the best beer in town is served inside or outside in the beer garden. The beer is unique here because it is not mass-produced but brewed over 16 weeks by traditional methods resulting in a light, yellow, fresh beer ( there are also a few other types). Don’t miss the beer hall on the lower level of this 15th century monastery. There are food vendors lining the entrance hall, they sell traditional Austrian fare which you are welcome to bring into the hall. Nothing beats this place for atmosphere. You can have waiter service but it is best to select your own ceramic beer mug and take it to the cashier to pay, then take your mug to the counter to get it filled from a large wooden barrel. Make the experience complete by sharing a table with Austrians.

You can make a day trip from Munich to Salzburg or stay overnight in Salzburg. There are really good Salzburg hotels for low cost if you know where to look.
