Unusual Buildings in Provence France

I’ve been writing a lot about Aix en Provence lately on a different website. It crossed my mind that it is the kind of travel destination where you don’t find that many unusual or unique attractions. However, there are several unusual buildings in Provence France. For example, this incredible library facade that looks like three huge books.

Unusual Buildings in Provence France – Bibliotheque Mejanes

This is one of the nicest looking libraries I’ve ever seen. This unusual attraction in Aix en Provence France really stands outside! The public library building, Bibliotheque Mejanes, looks like three huge books. The giant books they chose to feature on the facade are The Little Prince, Moliere, and Camus’ L’etranger. The books and writers are all associated in some way with the region. Since 1989 the Bibliotheque Mejanes has been part of the Cite du Livre cultural complex. The library shares the enormous space with other cultural institutes, cinema and research facilities. The building is made up of two former match factory. The factories would have been ugly industrial waste if not restored and repurposed. The cultural complex covers 14,500 square meters and has been completely repurposed.
