South Africa’s Farm Stalls

South African’s love their farm stalls and with so many little, local farms producing yummy vegetables, homemade jams and cheeses and fresh meat dishes it really is no wonder why. Here are some of our favorite South African farm stalls that are standing out from the crowd!

Irene Farm Dairy Shop

The Irene Dairy Shop is set on a picturesque farm outside of Pretoria and relives the old experience of glass milk bottles delivered fresh to your door! This is one of the only places you will find certified raw milk, meaning it hasn’t been pasteurized or homogenized and it is acclaimed as having the best milk tart around! Also stock up on homemade yoghurts, ice-creams, cheeses, cookies and rusks. Make a day of it and spend a night at the farm’s Irene Country Lodge.

Ronnie’s Sex Shop

Undoubtedly one of South Africa’s famous road side shops, this place has nothing to do with said subject, it was so named after Ronnie’s friends played a prank on him. It was originally intended as a shop but has developed into a popular pub and bar pit-stop for bikers, farmers and tourists on route 62 in the Klein Karoo.

The Pienk Padstal

In the Kalahari between Upington and Pofadder you will find the Pienk Padstal, and pink it sure is! Although they sell everything you could hope to find at a farm stall, most if it comes in pink while an outside area is decked with pretty pink roses and garden furniture.

Die Pampoen Stalletjie

Located at the Memel Guesthouse in the Breede Valley, the Pampoen Farm Stall is famous for its gigantic pile of Pumpkins that welcome you to the terrace of the building. The pumpkins are grown on the farm and are great for eating or for carving up for Halloween.  You will also find a selection of freshly harvested fruits and vegetables as well as a variety of jams and preserves at the shop.

Turksvy Trading

Turksvy Trading can be found in Rosendal and this cute Victorian style store was bought in its entirety by the owner; even down to the old kitchen utensils, crockery and fabrics. The shop sells a variety of goods or you can simply enjoy browsing as it is virtually a museum!

Pucketty Farm Stall

A sleepy cat mans the till at the Pucketty Farm Stall in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Simply pick and choose what you want from the stall, write down your purchases in the book and leave your money. This honest form of payment is so refreshing and yes, unusual, to find nowadays but the owners claim it works for them with minimal problems!
