Tallinn Old Town, Estonia cafe

Tallinn’s Old Town is full of local places of interest, and one of the most well-preserved of the European old towns. You can wander around for a good few hours always finding a beautiful church or unusual building just around the corner.

Maiasmokk Cafe Tallinn Old Town Cafe

One of my favorite places in Tallinn is the coffee house, bakery and marzipan makers, Maiasmokk café or “Sweet Tooth”. This Tallinn Old Town cafe opened in 1864, and is the oldest cafe in the town. The cafe has not changed a lot. You’re greeted by a gaggle of eager middle-aged ladies standing behind a long counter laden with sweet pastries and cakes. Choose your indulgence, and couple it with their hot chocolate, made there,by mixing milk and real solid chocolate!
At this Tallinn Old Town cafe they sell savory dishes, but who needs them when you have such a choice of pastries. Prices are reasonable, and you will find locals and tourists alike enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Look up for a view of the exquisite high ceiling. There are big windows facing the street so you can do some people watching at the same time. The marzipan part of the cafe is more like a museum. You can buy small pieces of marzipan and have them wrapped as presents. to get to the museum you need to go out of the shop and enter from another door, a few meters around the corner.

Other Great Tallinn Old Town Cafes

Tallinn Old Town is full of quaint little coffee places and restaurants. Worthy of mention are also Peppersack, Granma’s place (Rataskaevu 10), Troika for Russian food and a small coffee/chocolate place at 6 Vene, Chocolaterie de Pierre. You can read about the cute Tallinn Old Town pottery cafe, Bogapott.
