Looking for a friendly Australian pub/bar with lots of character in Sydney? Try the Australian Heritage Hotel Sydney. Located just across Harbour Bridge, at the entrance to the area called “The Rocks” – a trendy, pub-filled, neighborhood with a lot of restored Edwardian buildings and ideal for people watching.
Bar in a Heritage Building
The present building dates back to 1913 but the name of teh hotel goes back to 1824 when the hotel occupied a different building. The classic building has a brick exterior and an iron-clad roof. There are two floors and a basement. There are many original architectural features like the pressed-metal ceilings and the saloon bar.
The pub is on the ground floor of the Australian Heritage Hotel Sydney . It is usually hard to find a seat. On the weekends it’s packed, but you can choose inside or out on the sidewalk. At the Australian Heritage Hotel, there is never a shortage of beers. They provide at least 100 different brands, bottled and on tap, some limited additions, and also have guest beers and some beers unique to this pub. Their food is also recommended. You can get a very good pizza or try some unusual Australian dishes, like Emu, croc or kangaroo (not for me sport!). It’s quirky, with dark wood, old furnishings, a little grubby, and tons of local unpretentious atmosphere.
