Most of us cannot afford to do our clothes shopping in Paris, but of course the average Parisian does, and you can shop where they do too. The Parisians don’t shop in the high fashion haute couture shops or along the Champs-Elysees, they buy their clothes in neighborhood stores, and so can you. For those of you who love to shop when you travel, or have a million greedy friends who descend on you when you return and the first question is “What did you get me?” – go to Tati.
What is Tati Paris France?
Tati Paris is an extremely busy and hectic clothes store, a few stories high, bustling with French women out to get the best deal. You may have to use your elbows to get close to the bargain bins, but it is worth it. Shopping in Paris at Tati, you can find high quality but cheap clothes for the whole family from wedding dresses to T-shirts. You will certainly get up close and personal with French shoppers at Tati.
Why the French Love Shopping in Paris at Tati
The French are very attached to this chain store, which burst on the scene just after WWII. The founder, Jules Ouaki aimed to provide cheap, quality clothes for the masses. The store saw its greatest growth in the 1980s when multiple stores were opened across the country. There are other Tati stores around the world but the flagship store in the Barbès area of Paris has the best atmosphere.
2020 – Latest News from Tati
In recent news, it was announced that the owner of Tati plans to close 13 stores and repurpose many others. This will mean a loss of almost 200 jobs. This big change is set to happen sometime in 2020. Now with the outbreak of corona, the new changes are even more likely to happen and perhaps the cutbacks will be even more severe. At least 100 of the Tati shops will be rebranded and become Gifi homeware stores. Both Tati and Gifi belong to the GPG Group. The only Tati that is set to survive these changes is Tati flagship shop in Barbès in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. So you can still do your shopping in Paris at Tati.
