24. Quo Vadis Walking Car

This art insulation by non-other than David Cerny is an iconic East German Trabant (car) walking on human legs. It is a reminder of the many East Germans who came to the West German embassy in Prague seeking asylum in 1989 when the Berlin Wall fell. Those who were granted asylum had to leave their cars behind and continue on foot to the west. The piece is on the grounds of the German Embassy so you can only see it from behind the fence if you walk around to the back of the property.

 25. Čertovka

Cross over the river and start wandering around the Lesser Town where you’ll find the Kafka Museum, Lennon Wall, the narrowest street, and a picturesque canal running through the leafy neighborhood. The Devil’s Canal was made by the Knight’s Hospitallier to provide water to the mills. You can still see one of the old mills near Charles Bridge. The canal creates Kampa Island between the canal and the Vltara River and runs from Malostranské nábřeží to Charles Bridge. You can take a cruise along the canal in the warmer months.

28. Prague Waterworks

I heard this place is only open to the public once a year, but check out the website which says it is open year-round. Near the Stromovka Royal Game Reserve, you can see the underground operations building of Prague’s water system (sewers) dating back 100 years. A tour takes you to see the still-functional steam engine room (1903), historical photographs and documents, a display of narrow gauge railway vehicles, and an exhibition of antique items related to the waterworks. Walk beneath the ground in Prague’s historic sewers. Prague Waterworks. If it is open it is definitely one of the unusual Prague attractions.

29. Upside Down Horse

My favorite unusual thing in Prague! This is a statue of King Wensleslas sitting on a horse hanging upside down from the ceiling in the Lucerna Passage. Again, this was created by David Cerny (yes I’m a bit of a fan), and it is in the same magnificent building as the elevator that never stops.

While on this side of the river you’ll probably wander around the Lower Town and even visit the Kafka Museum. The two bronze figures piss into a puddle and are writing in the water with their piss. You can send an SMS with your name to a number displayed nearby, and the men will write your name. While here, enjoy the quality gingerbread shop. Pissing Men.

You’d never have guessed what lies beneath the large Julta Hotel on Wenceslas Square. A previously concealed nuclear fallout shelter from the 1950s. Nuclear Bunker.

33. Sedlec Bone Church

This unusual Prague attraction is not actually in Prague. You need to catch a train to the little town of Kunta Hora, but in my opinion, it is worth it. To cut a long story short, a monk was put in charge of stacking the bones of the deceased, and he got creative. He started making chandeliers, and other decorative pieces in the ossuary. Check out the website, as you need to buy the tickets online or at a ticket office in the town. Also, read my post about the bone church.

34. Prague Market (Pražská tržnice)

This huge market space looks abandoned but it is a treasure trove of great deals. You have to bargain!! Offer at least half of what the vendor is asking. This is where the locals shop. You’ll find shoes, clothing, suitcases, toys, household goods, electronics, and more. This market was once called the Vietnam Market Prague and has gone by several other names. It is located on the castle side of the river.

Hi, this is a very nice article with unusual places in Prague. I just saw a few mistakes, mixing Prague with Budapest. There is no Buda in Prague. And the city is in Czech republic, not Hungary (as mentioned at the part about the museum of communism).

    1. Petal

Wow, I can’t believe I made those mistakes ! I have corrected them, thank’s well spotted. I’d love to hear if you see any other mistakes.
