Lovely and attractive destinations are popular among people but there are unusual travelers who are interested in exploring unusual travel destinations and bizarre places on the planet. For such extraordinary tourists, the top five weird travel destinations are listed below.
Aokigahara, Mt. Fuji, Japan
Aokigahara is better known as “Sea of Trees”, and is a fourteen square mile stretch of forest in the lower reaches of Mt. Fuji, Japan. The mysterious location is known for the many suicides committed in the area. It is considered to be the second most prevalent suicide destination after San Francisco’s Golden Gate. Why so many people commit suicide in this area, is still an unsolved mystery. The forest is covered by icy, rocky caves and is heavy with lush green foliage. You can take an organized tour to visit Aokigahara.
The Alnwick Poison Gardens in England
The Alnwick Poison Gardens were created by an English Duchess and takes its inspiration from the renowned Padua Botanical Gardens. But beware, do not attempt to touch or smell any foliage in these gardens. Unlike the medicinal plants in Padua, Alnwick Gardens are known for its noxious plants.
Guarded by large gates and with round-the-clock security, this weird garden contains almost a hundred species of toxic plants. Among the lethal plants are deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna), hemlock (Conium maculatum) and strychnine (Strychnos nux-vomica). Heavy narcotic species like poppies, tobacco, magic mushrooms, and cannabis are also included in the collection of flora in the garden.
RaceTrack Playa
One of the Most Unusual Travel Destinations in the USA
Racetrack Playa has been the site of strange manifestations, i.e. moving rocks and boulders, it is located in the flat desert stretch of Death Valley, California. This desert receives short spurts of rainfall once every year in the winter when it becomes muddy and slippery. It is during this period that the movement of rocks occurs. Clearly visible trails of rock movements can be seen in the area. Although scientists attribute the phenomenon to be carried out by strong winds, it is indeed strange that boulders can abruptly change track at 90 degrees to its former direction.
Ilha de Queimada Grande in Brazil
Even the weirdest traveler will think twice before setting foot on the odd Snake Island of Brazil, Ilha de Queimada Grande. Largely infested with snakes, it is home to a number of deadly snake species. Conservative estimates report 2.5 venomous snakes for each square meter area in this place. Almost all species of snakes are venomous, although you may be confronted with a few non-poisonous snakes if you are lucky. This unusual travel destination is home to the most venomous species of snakes including the pit viper.
Chernobyl in Ukraine
One of the most infamous and unusual travel destinations is the former Chornobyl nuclear plant, in Ukraine. The nearby devastated Prypiat Town still bears the unwanted scars of the tragic Chornobyl Tragedy of 1986. Thousands of people were killed. Belongings such as toys are still strewn across the streets, all the houses and buildings are uninhabited and clocks still show the time as 11:55, the time when electricity was shut off. Due to the notoriety tourists are attracted to this place even though they know there are still traces of radiation here. The radiation in the area is below what is officially considered harmful and Chornobyl tour companies take groups out to see the site regularly.
